The Gale's Visit Hrvatska

We had the great fortune of convincing my parents to come and visit in Croatia.  Actually it was their idea to come and we are so glad they finally met up with us on our world wide adventure.  They had mentioned Thailand and I wasn't sure my mom would enjoy it.  We also had mentioned Argentina which would have been the easiest flight but they decided to come to Croatia and other than the difficulty to get there I don't think the week could have been better.  I am not sure what they were expecting but I think their week long experience surpassed all expectations.  We had a lot of great dinners that included fish, meats, lobster and pretty much everything else you can think of.   I think my dad drank more non alcoholic beer than he had in the rest of the year combined and we played a lot of cards all while having a jam packed week.  I will let the pictures do the talking.

Us in Split with the Promenade in the background!

Drew and my dad at this restaurant with a great little patio.  The food was excellent!

We found a cool affordable wine bar with great wine and according to my dad the best bruschetta he has ever had.  I think the key is to add olives and asparagus and just whatever else you have in your fridge.

My mom and dad in the old town.

We rented a car and drove all around the country which is very easy to get around.  Our first stop was the Plitvice Waterfalls.  We were expecting JUST a waterfall but we did not know it was a huge park with lakes and falls everywhere.  You could spend days here and pictures just do not do it justice.  The water is so clear that at times the only way to tell that a picture was of water was to be able to see fish in the picture because the water didn't always show up in photos.

My dad and I in front of a small fall.

The park does a great job of keeping the natural beauty with these paths.  I only almost fell in once when I stepped on a loose board that tripped Drew but we both stayed dry.

We spent several hours in the park before heading back.  If you are ever in Croatia, do not miss this park especially if you love to hike and be outdoors.

The second day of having our car rental we headed down to Dubrovnik.  The picture above is from lunch in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  To get to the south of Croatia you actually have to take a ferry or drive through Herzegovina but only for about 6 kilometers.

This is the view from my parent's room in Dubrovnik.

One of the coolest things in Dubrovnik (considered the pearl of the Adriatic) is that you can walk along the old town walls which give you great views.  This is from above of the main street in Dubrovnik.

After this picture we went to have some dinner and we ate the best meal I had the entire time I was in Croatia at a restaurant called Taj Mahal.  I had to mention the name because in a week of good meals this stood out as the best but the pictures from dinner that night did not come out.

On our second day in Dubrovnik Drew my dad and I took the gondola up which was supposed to have some of the best views of old town and it did not disappoint.  My mom sadly missed out because she hates enclosed places and I am glad she sat this out because they pack the gondola like pickles.

After Dubrovnik we headed back to Split because my parents were leaving from there however Drew and I did go back to Dubrovnik because our flight out of the country was from there and since we did most things with my parents we ended up doing a Kayaking tour and these photos are from that.  We also went cliff jumping and there are some awesome spots in Dubrovnik that I think are even better than Split.  We have more pictures we may add from this day from our water proof camera but they are currently not uploaded.

This is on our last night in Split having drinks and chatting and doing what we do best.  My mom normally only drinks Chardonnay which they have in Croatia but not the best quality but they have a wine that is similar called Pošip which is the local wine and she seemed to enjoy that just as much.  I couldn't be happier with the week we had and it went by way too fast.  Thank you mom and dad for everything and for having three flights and nearly 24 hours of travel to come see us!  One more country crossed off of your bucket list! While my parents head back to the states we are flying to Paris, France next which I went to 10 years ago but Drew has never seen.  Our  month in Croatia went so fast.  We both felt we were only there for a few days but luckily I know we will be back sometime in the near future!  Croatia, Mom and Dad, we will miss you!  Until next time....
