Bali - Seminyak and Uluwatu

So we have been in Bali a few days now and are enjoying our Balinese life. We thought that we had done all of the right things to avoid jet lag but we, and by we I mean I am still waking up before the sun comes up. Drew on the other hand is sleeping in a lot later. Since we have been here our days consist of walking up and down the beach, eating at local Warungs (cafes) for a few dollars a meal and we have gotten a few 5 dollar massages as well. So far our favorite thing to do is go down to the beach every night and watch the sunsets. It's a huge deal here and all of the locals and tourists go down to the beach bars and have dinner and drinks and watch the sunset. Our goal is to now go to as many as possible. Below is a photo of the sunset on the beach in front of the street we live on in the Seminyak district.

We also went to the town of Uluwatu which is a famous surf spot. A friend I went to high school with named Leilani invited us to come see a night time surf contest and go to the after pool party as well. We took a cab there and lucked out and found a cab that would charge us the metered rate whereas most cabs try to get you to give them a set price to go somewhere which would cost about 350,000 Indonesian Rupia which is the equivalent of 35 dollars but the metered rate only ended up costing us 14 dollars to go an hour in a cab (only 10 dollars to get back the next day) Uluwatu Beach (below) is one of the biggest surf spots on Bali but not much of a place to go to the beach as the Ocean backs up to the Cliffs. The day after the surf contest we went to dreamland beach (no photos because we didn't bring the camera but we are going back next week and will remember to take some) and took scooters down which was our first experience here riding scooters which is a feat in itself because if you saw the way people drive here, on the other side of the road and every man for himself you would be amazed there are not more accidents. Leilani is back with us at our villa for a few days which we will upload photos of in our next post along with updates of what we have been doing. Until then here are more photos of our trip so far.
